

Marjorie Frey Brown 1926-2014 A devoted Christian, a strong patriot and loving wife to David Emerson Brown, loving mother to David Jr.(Kathy), Judy Howser(Richard), and Thomas (Amy) , devoted grandmother to Lindsay Schultz(David and Makenna), Katie Nading(Jesse), Crystal Howser, Benton Howser, Elizabeth Howser, Richard E. Howser(Jennifer), Thomas B. Brown, Douglas Brown and Colton and Piper Markowitz, departed this earth surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, August 24, 2014. Marge was known for her charitable leadership, politics, athleticism and family love. She served as chair twice of the United Charities fund raiser the Riverview Ramble, initiated Head Start at Cabrini Green, was on the Wesley Hospital Woman's Board for 7 years, chairing their benefit event twice, was a 25 +year member of the Winnetka Board of the Northwestern Settlement House serving as President twice and benefit chair twice, a 25+ year volunteer at the Chicago Botanic Gardens, Chair of the Winnetka Children's Fair, a boy scout leader, a girl scout leader, President of the PTA, president of the Wilmette Garden Club, Head of the New Trier Township Volunteer Pool, member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, member of the Duke University honor society the White Duchy and Duke class president in 1948. In addition to her endless volunteer commitments, she was an avid tennis player with titles as Toledo city champ, Duke Tennis team, and numerous championships with Glen View Club. She was also a skip on many winning curling teams on the North Shore. Marge met her husband David at DeVillbiss High School in Toledo, Ohio. She graduated from Duke University in 1948 and married David in August, 1950. They spent five years in New Orleans where Marge taught school at Isidore Newman, before moving to Wilmette. They recently celebrated 64 years of wedding happiness. Possessing a great heart, she cared for her family and friends with cooking, crafts and endless knitting. With a real zest for life, Marge loved to read, garden, write poems, chat with friends and play cards with family especially bridge and wildcard. Although she was very disillusioned by today's politics and politicians, she was a staunch Republican and hard worker for the New Trier Republican Organization. She attended four different Presidential inaugurations. Marge was equally frustrated by professional sports but attended 50+years of Bears football with Dave and family. It was her strong faith in God that motivated her living. Marge was very active at Trinity Methodist Church in Wilmette. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Methodist Church, 1021 Lake St., Wilmette, IL 60091, at 3pm on Saturday October 18, 2014. A reception will follow at Glen View Club.
