

Marlene Blitstein Zarov, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on May 15, 2026. She was born on July 30, 1945, to Abe and Pauline Blitstein in Chicago, Illinois, where she spent her childhood and early years surrounded by family and friends.
Marlene worked for many years as a teacher and brought creativity and individuality to everything she did. She was an avid lover of Gordon Setters and spent many years showing her own dogs, finding deep joy and companionship in the dog-show community and in the animals she loved so dearly. Whether at competitions or at home with her dogs, she found happiness in their loyal companionship.
Marlene was also a talented artist with a creative soul and an eye for beauty. She loved photography, painting, sculpture, and working with pastels. She was endlessly curious, loved spirited political debates, and never shied away from sharing her opinions. Those who knew her will remember her intelligence, humor, and the passion she brought to every conversation.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Abe and Pauline Blitstein. She is survived by her son, Josh (Lisa) of Highland Park, Illinois, and their children, Anna and Eli; and by her son, Peter (Sylla) of Madison, Wisconsin, and their children, Sam, Ethan, and Jake; brother, Bob (Carol) Blitstein of Chicago; sister, Elissa (Cary) Brown of California; and nephew, Scott Brown.
Her memory will live on in the stories shared by those who knew and loved her.
