Marvin Charles Jacobs

June 19, 1923February 10, 2021

Our father, Marvin Charles Jacobs passed on Wednesday February 10th, 2021. We were told by the nurse who was with him that he was awake and comfortable, took a breath in and on the exhale he left. The Chaplin called and said that he looked at ease, peaceful, eyes closed and that he had a hint of a smile. He is free and we hope at peace.

Marvin was born on June 19, 1923 in Chicago and attended Nettelhorst Elementary school, Senn High School and attended Northwestern University until drafted into the Army in November 1942.j Upon his return from the war he continued his studies and he became a Phi Beta Kappa recipient.

He served in the U.S. Army in the 9th Infantry Division as a First Lieutenant in Northern France after D-Day and returned home on June 18, 1946. On July 7th of that year, he married his childhood sweetheart, Jean Diamondstone. By September of 1946 he went into business with his father and the firm became known as Ralph Jacobs & Son.

Marvin and Jean were married for 31 years and after a prolonged illness she passed away in 1977. In 1978 Marvin married Muriel Packer Toubus. Muriel’s son Steve said recently that Marvin had played a significant role in his life, “I was already a teenager when he married my mother. Nonetheless, he quickly began teaching me about integrity and honesty.” Marvin and Muriel were married until she passed away from cancer in 1983. Our father Marvin was a rock of strength, persistence, and integrity. His loyalty and care of our mother and Muriel through their illnesses is a testimony to his caring nature.

Marvin was introduced to Janyce Gluck Wolf by their Rabbi and in June of 1984 were married and remained so until her death in April 2020 after 36 years together. During their marriage, the blended family shared may of life’s milestones together as an annual Seder.

A good father, a reliable, loving husband, Marvin was also a part of an extended community of friends that had been together from childhood. He is lovingly remembered by his son Bruce, his daughter-in-law Lynne Erickson Jacobs, his granddaughter Ruth Jean and daughter Jan. He also is remembered by Muriel’s sons Stephen, John, and Philip as well Janyce’s children Joan, Laura, their spouses, and children.

We have good memories of life with dad and know that he is at peace.
