Dr. Marvin J. Katz, 90, beloved husband of the late Lorri (née Palman), son of Alfred and Sarah Katz, devoted father of Andrea Rein (Tom) and Renee Greenspon (Dr. James). Cherished "Pops" to Melanie Rein, Rob Rein (Talia Weiss), Mal Greenspon, and Marc Greenspon. Proud great grandfather of Wesley Lev Rein. Loving brother-in-law to Barbara Palman and son-in-law to the late Paula Palman. Dear brother of the late Janice Katz Dolnick. Very dear friend to Jan Lieberman. Treasured uncle, cousin and friend to many. Marv fully enjoyed his 90 years. He grew up on the west side of Chicago, and at age five began his love of music when he learned to play the violin. After graduating from Marshall High School, he worked as a furrier for his father, and started his own underground sprinkler business. He also bought a boat, and when a meteorological tsunami hit near Montrose Harbor, he rescued and saved the life of a man from his boat. After attending Northwestern University Dental School, Marv started his own dental practice in Niles where he practiced for 55 years and took care of countless patients. Marv raised his family in Glencoe and was devoted to his family and friends. He enjoyed talking to people, and was a fixture at Glencoe coffee houses in his later years. He was passionate about classical music, and was a founding member of the Northbrook Symphony Orchestra. He also played weekly in two chamber music groups up until recently, while maintaining his interests in travel, art, and flowers. Memorial service Tuesday, July 26th, 2 PM at North Shore Congregation Israel, 1185 Sheridan Rd, Glencoe. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance (ccalliance.org) or Reach Teach Play (ravinia.org/donatenow/rtp).
