Mary taught in Europe after WWII, employed by the American Army and Air Force, teaching children of families stationed overseas. She taught in Germany, Morocco and England, and traveled extensively. After returning from Europe in 1955, she continued teaching in Massachusetts, where she met her husband, David. They married and soon moved their young family to Illinois in 1960.

She was smart and independent, a voracious reader who cared about world events and followed the news closely. She was always happiest when surrounded by family, and recently enjoyed a 100th birthday party with family and friends.
A Memorial Reception with reflections on her life will be held at Kenilworth Union Church on July 18th, 2026 at 1pm. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Evanston Animal Shelter or The Red Cross.
