Murray Sheldon Weiner

Murray Weiner, born on Valentine’s Day in 1932 in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026.

After growing up in Mt. Vernon, NY, Murray attended business school at The Ohio State University and met his bride Carol Berman. From there they moved to Fort Sill, OK where he served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Artillery. Their 72-year marriage was a heartwarming example of devoted partnership to their entire family.

Together, Murray and Carol lived in Oklahoma and Tacoma, Washington where their eldest daughter, Cheryl, was born before settling in Dayton, Ohio. There, they completed their family with the births of their son, Michael, and daughter, Beth, and built a home filled with love and their cherished dogs, Taupe and Tippie. Murray spent his career in the steel industry, eventually owning and operating Monarch Steel, and later bringing his sales talents to Victory Wholesale.

In retirement, Murray and Carol enjoyed the sunsets from their mountain home at Troon Country Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, before eventually moving to Tamarisk in Deerfield, Illinois, to be closer to family. Murray was an avid golfer, tennis player, swimmer, sports car enthusiast, and global traveler.

A quintessential rule-follower who was notoriously early for everything, Murray’s true passion was his family—and his fierce loyalty to Ohio State buckeye football. Even when two of his grandchildren attended the rival University of Michigan, Murray proudly wore his OSU gear and played the Buckeye fight song on his phone throughout both graduations.

Murray is survived by his beloved wife, Carol; his three children, Cheryl, Michael, and Beth; Sons-in-law Richard and Adam, and daughter-in-law, Melanie; 9 amazing grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered as the undisputed king of his household and the heart of his family.
