Nancy Weiss Silberman, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, surrounded by family, just hours before the anniversary of her husband Thomas’s passing. Married for 59 years, they shared a love that endures in their children—Peter (Ann Swanson), Mark (Sonita Singwi), and Louise (Chris Galle)—and grandchildren Leah (Didier Konings), Ben (Elena Tinto), Eva, and Maya.
Born in Chicago in 1933, Nancy graduated from Senn High School and Wellesley College. In 1961, she settled in Winnetka to raise her family. A voracious reader, she earned a Master’s in Teaching from National Louis University. For over 20 years, she inspired students as an English and reading specialist at Field Elementary in Northbrook. Her passion for history shone as a docent for the Chicago Historical Society in the 1970s and, in her 70s, as a guide for Chicago Architectural Tours, sharing the city’s stories with infectious enthusiasm.
Nancy’s adventurous spirit led her to explore over 80 countries across all seven continents. In 2025, she rejoiced in celebrating the weddings of her grandson Ben in June outside of Bari, Italy and her granddaughter Leah in Northfield in August, a day after her 92nd birthday. A lifelong suffering Chicago sports fan, she cheered at the 1945 Cubs World Series with her father and treasured her Chicago Bears season ticket, a wedding gift from Thomas.
Nancy’s radiant smile and steadfast devotion to family and friends will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, please honor her legacy with donations to the Chicago Hearing Society, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago, or Chicago Architecture Center.
