

Nate was the beloved husband of Randy (nee Luster) Shapiro for 62 years; the cherished father of Steve (Leslie) Shapiro, Danny (Anne) Shapiro, and Lesley (Nate) Stillman; grandfather of Joey, Tony, Jack, Jayson, Jordyn, Emily, Sam, Nick, Noah, Payton, Addison, and Samantha; and great grandfather of Tatum and Riley. Nate was also the brother of Robert (late Gwen) Shapiro and the late Norton (late Barbara) Shapiro.
Nate graduated 1st in his class from Northwestern University. After which he served in the US Army and later the Reserves. He joined his family’s business, National Superior, working alongside his brothers and father. Nate later became an investor, founding his brokerage firm SF Investments, and joining in partnership with New Vernon Capital in 2004.
Nate is best known for his tireless work with the American Association for Ethiopian Jews, which ultimately resulted in Operation Moses and Solomon, rescuing over 25,000 isolated Jews in Ethiopia and bringing them to Israel. He is a hero to many for his actions. Nate was also known as one of the original marathoners, participating in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon in 1980. Nate was a man of faith who lived Judaism every day. His ultimate expression was his unwavering kindness and positivity toward all, for which he was also well known.
Funeral service will be held Friday, January 3, 2025, 1:00 PM at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd, Wilmette, IL 60091. Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery, 9900 Gross Point Rd, Skokie, IL 60076.
