Born February 1934, he grew up in Chicago where he attended Brentano Grade School and Von Steuben High School before graduating from the University of Illinois at Navy Pier with a degree in Pharmacy. He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret, in 1955. After graduating, he served in the U.S. Army for 2 years before returning to Chicago.
Paul worked for Erlich Drugs before opening his own businesses: Norwood Pharmacy in 1968 and Talcott Drugs in 1973. He was beloved by both his employees and customers, working daily in both stores before retiring in 1998.
Paul was an avid traveler, visiting all 50 states and traveling around the world with his wife. They often joined his children and grandchildren on their vacations as well. He enjoyed biking, swimming, crosswords, and reading. He was a true handyman and was everyone’s go-to for anything that needed to be fixed. His greatest joy was being a grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Margaret. He is also survived by his daughters, Debbie (Jim) Lee and Karen (Harry) Silverman; his grandchildren, Jenna (Brian) Apel, Michael (Lauren) Silverman, Katherine Lee (Brian Gilmore), Mark (Megan) Silverman, Lee (Rachel) Kesting, and Scott (Shannon) Silverman; his great-grandchildren, Julian, Joel, Leo, Emilia, Jacob, and Kaitlyn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Lillian, and sister, Eileen.
Services will be held at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd, Wilmette, on October 20, 2026 at 1pm. Immediately following, family and friends are invited to Shiva at Max and Benny’s, 461 Waukegan Rd, Northbrook, until 6 pm.
