Regis Gorenflo, nee Mante, 89, died peacefully at home on January 12, 2021. She was the adored wife of the late Robert “Bob” Gorenflo; loving mom of Sandra Martell, Thomas (Salvacion) Gorenflo; Anne (Julius) Rogers; preceded in death by daughters Marie Gorenflo and Theresa Gorenflo. Grandma to Alyssa, Angeline, and Alison Gorenflo; nicknamed G-Ma by grandsons Grant and Jack Rogers.
Regis, a proud graduate of St. Elizabeth College, was a life-long educator and avid reader committed to literacy and expanding the minds of youth through teaching and tutoring. An original “Jersey girl”, she maintained lifelong friendships with her grammar, high school, and college friends. She had the gift of making new friendships throughout her life. At the Sedgebrook Community, she held the position of President of the Resident Advisory Committee.
Regis had an active retirement in Florida and Arizona and ultimately settled back in Illinois where she had raised her family. She enjoyed golfing, sailing Lake Michigan, championship bowling, and line dancing. Trips to Door County and the Jersey Shore were her favorites. Regis was known to spoil the family dogs Rebel, Echo, and Jingles by allowing them to sit in Bob’s chair.
She was a devout Catholic but her faith was expansive and inclusive. Her family fondly remembers her infamous casserole recipes and blonde brownies which were her go to for any event, her love of costume jewelry, her daily commitment to clean laundry, the necessity of an apron, her openness to alternative and complementary medicine, and her fun spirit. Mostly she is remembered for her kindness and her ability to make each individual feel as if they were the most important one.
She lived a good life and will be missed by all who knew her.
