Dr. Richard L. "Rick" Kraines, 87, died peacefully at home on July 22, 2026; beloved husband of Carol nee Spector; loving father of Michael (Katherine) and Jeffery (Ursula) Kraines; cherished grandfather of Tyler, Logan, Caroline and Jesse; dear brother of Gerry (Cynsie) and David (Vivian) Kraines.
Dr. Kraines practiced internal medicine and cared deeply for his patients at Highland Park Hospital for 43 years. Medicine was his calling and truly his life's work. He read medical journals daily throughout his career, was regarded as one of the finest diagnosticians in Chicago and deliberately created a practice that allowed him to give his patients as much time as they needed. He retired at 73, not because he wished to retire, but because he would give his patients nothing less than his best. In retirement he exercised every day, kept reading medical journals for the sheer pleasure of it, and volunteered his time helping people one on one. In his work and in his personal life alike, he stayed true to his own principles and beliefs throughout.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 26, 2026, 1:00 PM at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd, Wilmette, IL 60091. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Deerfield Public Library.
