Rita Wolff Seidman, 100, passed away peacefully as she lived, with strength, compassion, and dignity, on June 6th at the Vi in Glenview, Illinois. She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Leon Seidman and enjoyed a long and fruitful 62 years of marriage, including years of assisting Leon in his office and with his work at Mt. Sinai hospital.
She leaves behind generations of loving relatives who all appreciated her advice and support. She always told her children and grandchildren they could be anything they wanted to be. She was the cherished mother of Shari (Stewart) Diamond and Richard (Julie) Seidman, treasured grandmother of Nicole (Reggie) Austin, Ben (Callie) Seidman, and Daniel (Danielle) Seidman, and proud great-grandmother of Adina, Maya, Sam, Luke, William, Jackson, Alexandra, & Emma. She was also the dear sister-in-law of Jay Seidman.
Rita was loved and respected by all and she pulled it off with charm and spirit, spit and vinegar. No one would be surprised to learn that as a young woman she bought and rode a horse, Chaquita, in Chicago, or that she sold Chaquita and bought a car, although she then had to learn to drive it. Sassy and feisty were two adjectives regularly used in describing her. Growing up in the depression and as a newlywed to a veteran at the end of WWII, she learned early the value of careful spending and saving, but that did not stand in the way of her generosity to charity.
Rita and Leon would be happy with their life accomplishments and pleased with the current and future successes of their interesting offspring.
Services were private. Rita left explicit instructions that any memorials should be given to the charity of your choice.
