Ron passed away early Thursday, August 6. He was 89. He is survived by 2 sons- Greg and Jeff (Patti), 6 grandchildren, and his sister Judith Simon Brill (Joseph Geraci). Preceding him in death were his parents Albert and Bertha Simon. He grew up in Albany Park in Chicago and attending Volta Elementary and Von Steuben High School. He went on to the University of Illinois first at Navy Pier in Chicago and then in Champaign/Urbana. He graduated with a degree in Architectural Engineering. He also did graduate studies in Civil Engineering at Northwestern University. He earned professional licenses in Architecture, Structural Engineering, and Professional Engineering. The bulk of his career was with the firm of Deleuw Cather Engineering. During his time there he had assignments in Spain, Thailand, and Australia. He was mainly responsible for structural engineering designing and overseeing the construction of bridges, parking garages, and other transportation related projects. Ron was honored by the American Society of Civil Engineers by being designated a "Fellow" of the Society.
He loved cars, especially sports cars, such as his Triumph TR-4, and belonged to a British Car Club. He was an avid Bears fan- he and a group of friends bought season tickets when the Bears were playing at Wrigley Field and proceeded to follow them to Soldier Field. He continued going to games as long as he could.
Ron loved to travel. One of his last trips was a cruise in Myanmar on the Irrawaddy River. His love of travel was passed on to his sister and her children Ed and Alisa.
Due to the current health situation, funeral services will be private.
