Samuel “Sam” Hart Detina, age 83 died peacefully on June 9, 2022 at his home in Estero, FL. Sam was born June 12, 1938 in Chicago, IL to the son of Irving and Pearl (Abisch) Detina. He is survived by wife of 59 years Arlene (Skolnik) Detina, his sons Jeffrey (Tamara) and Kenneth and Chandra (Frediani) Detina, his four Grandchildren Jeremy, Janelle, Gabriel, and Evan, loving sister Judith (Detina) Parrott, sister-in-law Roberta Skolnik, and many nieces and nephews.
Sam and Arlene spent most of their lives in the Chicagoland area until retirement when they moved to Florida, which Sam always referred to as “Paradise”.
Sam graduated from Roosevelt University in 1956 and took his psychology degree and keen negotiating skills to corporate America working mainly in financial sales. However, his real passion was trading commodities and he followed that desire for decades both as an independent trader at the Chicago Board of Trade and at his home office during his retirement years.
He served as Military Police in the Army Reserves receiving his Honorable Discharge in April of 1967.
Sam enjoyed bowling, tennis, ping pong, and slowed to bocce ball as the years went on. His passion and hobbies were watching the financial markets, politics, and building his huge collection of pop cans. He enjoyed his daily walks in the community, meeting and greeting all his neighbors. He always possessed a positive outlook and a smile on his face.
Gravesite services will be held at Shalom Memorial Park, 1700 Rand Rd in Arlington Heights, IL on 6/23/2022 beginning at 1:00 pm. A gathering with snacks and appetizers will be held immediately following at Biaggi’s restaurant, 20560 Rand Rd in Deer Park, IL from 2:30-6:30.
