2006 - 2025
Samuel (Sam) Wilson Hoff, age 19, died unexpectedly after a prolonged battle with Mental Health on June 12, 2025 at his home in Evanston, Illinois. We extend our deepest sympathy to Sam’s family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
Sam was born on April 8, 2006 to Elisabeth Klein Hoff and Michael Patrick Hoff in Asheville, North Carolina. He spent his first months in the mountains surrounded by music, art, and nature. All of these continued to play an important role in his life. He was an emerging graffiti artist, and known by his friends as a talented Rapper and Hip Hop Producer.
Sam was unshakably kind-hearted. He identified strongly with his Chinese Zodiac spirit animal, The Dog. He not only loved his dog, Panda, but was a keen protector of all earthly animals. He lived out his true character by being a sensitive caretaker to his little brother, cousins, family friends, and as a youth counselor at Evanston and Wisconsin summer camps.
Sam loved the outdoors. He was an active member of his Boy Scout Troop 929. He earned the Arrow Of Light in grade school and hiked the Sangre De Cristo Mountains with his tight-knit crew at Philmont Scout Ranch in 2021.
We honor Sam’s memory by encouraging awareness around mental health and the importance of reaching out for help. If you or someone you know is struggling, you are not alone. You can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline for 24/7, free, and confidential support.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Evanston Animal Shelter in Sam’s name.
