November 24, 1949 – March 16, 2023

Sandra Chatz (née Handmacher), “the ultimate fighter and survivor” passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Lebanon, KY in 1949, she was raised in Highland Park, IL. Sandi had a unique magnetism and zest for life that was admired by both lifelong and new friends. Loving wife of the late Bob Chatz, and daughter of the late Phil and Betts Handmacher. She is survived by her sons Joey (Meg) and David (Jessica) Waxman; her sister Debi (Alfred) Cohen; her “daughters” Julie (Mark) Lerman, Cathy Smith, Barbara (Keith) Bank; her nephew Jordan (Tovah) Cohen and niece Robbyn (Jason) Ratskoff; Sandi’s grandchildren Adam, Leo, Eloise, Riley, Bradyn, Gordy (Elana), Jake (Allison), Benjy (Stacey), Kyle (Allie), Valerie, Melissa and the late Casey.
Sandi has donated her body to science. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 20th at 2:30 PM at North Shore Congregation Israel, Perlman Sanctuary, 1185 Sheridan Road, Glencoe, Illinois.
