Sarah Bartlett Levinson

She will be deeply missed by her husband Jeffrey, son Jeremy, daughter Sophia and father Professor Laurence Bartlett, Ph.d., along with all those whose lives she touched in such meaningful ways.

Sarah was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, and raised in Athens, Ohio, by Bernardette (deceased) Bartlett (nee Lane), of Irish descent, and Laurence, of Welsh descent, both of whom informed her quick wit and her love of a great story, whether it belonged to a friend or a wonderful piece of literature.

Her life delivered her to the Jewish community whose embrace she welcomed. The connection led to her conversion, something that she chose independently and practiced gracefully. She had an uncanny memory, a “steel trap,” as she called it. She also had a decades long practice of yoga.

She lived with great intention and purpose, and one way that manifested itself was through self-reinvention. Her career trajectory changed many times, including as the English as a Second Language Director at Madonna Mission, a non-profit serving the refugee community in the City of Chicago, a contract Instructional Designer for a Fortune 100 Company in Deerfield, Ill., and an ESL teacher and Reading Interventionalist in the Mayfield Heights City School District.

She was a member of the Women’s Club of Evanston and the Parents Council at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Ill. She was an avid walker who also completed two half marathons after beating back cancer in her mid-thirties.

A celebration of Sarah’s life will be held in the near future in Cleveland. Donations in Sarah’s honor may be offered to BloodCancerUnited.org
