

Born on June 14, 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio, Sharon was the beloved daughter of Jack and Edith Leibowitz. She carried with her a deep sense of compassion, creativity, and conviction that shaped her life in meaningful and lasting ways. Sharon was the devoted wife of Henry Lorsch, whom she married in 1982. She was also a proud and loving mother to her three daughters, Jennifer Kamins, Nicole (Kamins) Barker (Kamins), and Melissa (Kamins) Aronesti and a caring stepmother to Diane Lorsch Nayhouse, Gail Lorsch and David Lorsch, as well as their spouses and children. Her family was at the center of her world, and she took great joy in nurturing and supporting those she loved. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Alan and Mark Leibowitz; her sister-in-law, Francy Leibowitz ; and her stepson David. She is survived by her husband Henry; her daughters and stepdaughters; her sister-in-law Cindy Leibowitz; her nephews and nieces, Hal Leibowitz, Linda Leibowitz and Justin Leibowitz, and many other extended family members and dear friends whose lives were touched by her warmth and spirit. Sharon will be remembered as a lifelong and passionate advocate for causes she believed deeply in, especially the Pro-Choice movement. She was also very active with the National Council of Jewish Women. Whether volunteering locally, serving on boards, or making her presence known in legislators’ offices and on Capitol Hill, she was unwavering in her commitment to ensuring that all voices—especially those often unheard—were represented and respected. A gifted artist and creative seamstress, Sharon expressed herself through creativity and craftsmanship, and she enthusiastically supported the local arts community in the Homewood-Flossmoor area. Her talents were matched by her generosity and her willingness to share her gifts with others. Those who knew Sharon will remember her vibrant energy, her quick wit, and her unmistakable laugh—joyful, warm, and contagious. She had a remarkable ability to connect with people and made others feel valued and cared for with even the smallest gestures. Her circle of friends and colleagues was wide, a testament to the many lives she enriched. Services will be held at Shir Tikvah Synagogue in Homewood, Illinois, on Monday, June 22, 2026 at 11am CDT. A gravesite gathering will occur the same day at 1pm CDT at Oakridge Glen Oaks Cemetery at 4301 W Roosevelt Road, Hillside, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the National Council of Jewish Women, Planned Parenthood, or another cause she supported.
Sharon’s legacy is one of love, advocacy, creativity, community and connection. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
