Shirley Sokolsky (nee Levin) passed away quietly in her Boca Raton, Florida home on Wednesday, July 22 at the age of 100. Her lifelong passion was ORT, a global network of schools for Jewish youth and a diversity of students. ORT teaches a well rounded curriculum of cultural identity, languages, with heavy emphasis on STEM coursework, professional and life skills, and social responsibility. For Women's American ORT Shirley served as: President, Bob-O-Link Chapter, President, Lake County Region, and Vice President, Midwest District. Shirley was born in Chicago, attended Marshall High School, and worked at Montgomery Ward and National Cheese Company. Her husband Burton Sokolsky Z"l was president and CEO of National Cheese Company in Chicago, and later, Daisy Brand, Inc. in Dallas. She is remembered with love and respect by many for her sunny, caring personality, serious commitments to ORT, and diplomatic leadership abilities. She is lovingly remembered by her children Debra Kanter (Laurence) and David Sokolsky (Laurie)and adoring grandchildren Michelle Kanter Cohen (Ian), Jonathan Kanter (Anna), Benjamin Sokolsky (Brittany), and Julie (Aharon) Yochananov. Shirley has 10 wonderful great grandchildren who will miss her very much. Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 30th, 1:00 p.m. at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home , 111 Skokie Blvd., Wilmette, Illinois, interment will at Zion Gardens Cemetery.
