Steven A Weil

Steven Aron Weil, age 86, passed away in his home surrounded by family on August 12. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and son. Born to German-Jewish parents, who fled Nazi Germany, Steven was a proud Chicagoan and life-long Hyde Parker. Steven graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and was an aspiring actor working in the early days of Second City and other professional venues in Chicago. He ultimately moved to New York to pursue a career in theater. In New York, he met his wife Janet.

Steven and Janet settled back in Hyde Park and Steven took over his family business, Alfred J. Weil and Co. In the 1970s, he became one of the first importers from mainland China (his visa from China was the second visa issued to the US). In the mid-80s, as governments change, so did Steven and he began a role as a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch and ultimately Oppenheimer.

Steven loved his family. He was a devoted husband to Janet. He adored his daughters Jenny (John Samuels) and Amy (Brian Raphael) and was incredibly proud of his grandchildren, Ben, Jake, Daisy, Sam and Ava. The summers that the entire family spent in Maine spanned over 40 years and were Steven’s most precious moments.
