

Susan Lee Kreer Carlson passed away on May 2, 2013 after a sudden illness. She was a lifelong resident of the North Shore, having lived in Evanston, Highland Park, and Winnetka. She was born in Evanston to Daniel P. Kreer and Ruth Lee Duck Kreer, and raised in Winnetka. Susan graduated from New Trier High School in 1967 and University of Miami (FL.) in 1972.
Susan was an entrepreneur, having created two successful businesses during her career. From 1978 to 2003 she worked as a freelance production assistant, helping entertainment producers and national advertising agencies produce national print ads, television commercials and major motion pictures. She was among the first producers in Chicago to scout and develop residential locations for films made in and around the North Shore.
Following her career in productions, Susan became interested in private investigations and opened her own agency, Susan Carlson Investigations, Inc. She eventually received national recognition and distinction for her work in the field. In addition to being a licensed private investigator, Susan was also a Certified Legal Investigator (CLI) and was one of only 100 private investigators in the country to be certified in the Reid Technique (CRT) of witness integration. She was a guest lecturer at DePaul University College of Law, a published author in P.I. Magazine and a speaker at many industry conferences.
Susan was preceded in death by parents. She is survived by her sons David Berndt Carlson (Brooke) of Northbrook and William Lee Carlson of Evanston, her brother Daniel P. Kreer, Jr. of Monterey, CA., cousins Linda Witt of Glenview and Tom Kreer of Lebanon, IL., and best pals Cyndee Keiser of Evanston and Polly Volckens Rothberg of Boulder, CO. and former husband David Carlson.
Services were held on May 8 at the Wm. H. Scott Funeral Home in Wilmette.
