Townsend S Albright

May 1, 1942 – August 25, 2025
Obituary of Townsend S Albright
IN THE CARE OF

Wm. H. Scott Funeral Home

Townsend S. Albright, a devoted husband, father, and longtime resident of Wilmette, Illinois, passed away on August 25, 2025, at the age of 83. He is survived by his loving family; his wife of 57 years, Eileen, and his two daughters, Megan Eileen Albright and Alexandra Michele Albright.

Born in Anderson, Indiana, Townsend graduated from Anderson High School (1960) and from Wabash College (1964), where he majored in Economics and History and was a proud member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He later earned his MBA from the University of Michigan before serving in the U.S. Army in Korea.

Professionally, Townsend became a prominent fixture in the municipal bond industry where he was admired for his integrity and expertise. Townsend began his public finance career as a municipal bond underwriter at The Northern Trust and later worked for Channer Newman Securities, Nuveen, and the Illinois Development Finance Authority. He also gave generously of his time as a member of the Economic Club of Chicago and as a board member of Urban Gateways, supporting the arts and education in Chicago. He was regularly referred to as “the last true gentleman” in Chicago.

In retirement, Townsend enjoyed being an active member of Wilmette’s First Presbyterian Church where he especially enjoyed the fellowship of the Men’s Council and ushering. He loved spending his summers in Walloon Lake, MI, where he enjoyed sailing, water skiing, and driving his motorboat around the lake. Townsend also had a lifelong passion for antique cars and coin collecting.

Townsend will be remembered most for his generosity, loyalty, curiosity, and love of family.

Memorial service Saturday, Nov. 1, 11AM at First Presbyterian Church of Wilmette, 600 9th St, Wilmette, IL 60091.
