Alfred was born on October 21, 1946, in Avondale, CO, to Matilda and James Perea. He spent his youth surrounded by siblings and cousins, creating a lifetime of memories across Colorado, New Mexico, and California.
In August of 1964, Alfred met the love of his life, Mary Louise “Betty” Perea, through mutual friends. Completely smitten, he knew she was “the one.” The two married just days after Betty’s 18th birthday in February 1965 and, this past February, joyfully celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and resilience as they raised their family and weathered life’s joys and challenges side by side.
Alfred was preceded in death by his firstborn child, Rosalie Perea, who was stillborn; his brothers Ernest, Joe, Bobby, and Pete Dominguez; and his sisters Isabelle Apodaca and Nellie Quintana.
He is survived by his cherished wife, Betty, of Carson, CA; sisters Pauline Montoya of AZ and Rose (Marie) Romero of CA; his sons Alfred J. Perea Jr. of Santa Clarita, CA, Richard L. Perea and his wife, Juanita, of Visalia, CA, and Michael J. Perea of Carson, CA; and seven treasured grandchildren: Alyssa Sanchez, Gabriel Perea, Vincent Perea, Selina Figueroa, Alex Figueroa, Drew Perea, and Valerie Perea. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family who will continue to honor his memory.
Alfred’s passion for music was legendary. His incredible oldies collection and love of sharing it brought joy to countless friends and family members. Whether listening to records, swapping stories, or attending classic car shows, Al had a gift for bringing people together through his interests and warm spirit. Above all, he found his greatest joy in being with his beloved Betty, spoiling his grandchildren, and spending time with his faithful grandpup, Toby. In his later years, he demonstrated his deepest love by caring tenderly for Betty as they navigated health challenges together.
In place of flowers, donations can be made to his memorial fund to assist with funeral expenses, remaining medical bills, and Betty’s ongoing care.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Al’s remarkable life on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 3–8 p.m. at Funeraria del Angel in Wilmington, CA. Together, we will honor him as he would want to be remembered—a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who lived life surrounded by love, music, and classic cars.
We are deeply grateful for the love, kindness, and support shown to our family during this time. Your compassion means more than words can express.
With heartfelt thanks,
The Perea Family
