Irene "Nena" Martin Poblete

Irene Helena Martin Poblete was the 10th child of Florentino and Irene Poblete. She was born in Cavite City on March 22, 1948. She has 6 brothers and 3 sisters. Irene's siblings starting with the oldest to youngest are: Virginia, Roberto, Carlos, Anita, Luvizminda, Florentino Jr., Enrique, Benjamin, and Richard.

Irene went to Caridad Elementary School and Cavite High School. She then went on to Lyceum University in Manila and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Banking and Finance.

Irene came to the United States in 1972. She worked for a few different companies such as Teledyne, Nippon Denso, and Sanyo. While working for Nippon Denso in the early 90’s, Irene had the opportunity to visit Japan where she stayed about a couple months for training. She kept a small notepad of words close to her so that she could communicate in Japanese when needed.

In 1972, upon arriving toThe United States Irene immediately joined Calvary Presbyterian Church. She later joined the Choir and sang as a Soprano. She loved being part of the CPC Choir and did so for more than 25 years. Irene was given a perfect attendance award for never missing Choir Practice. She also served as a Deacon and provided rides home to the elderly after church. She would have given the elderly rides to church, but she didn’t want to be late for Choir.

Irene loved watching movies. Some of her favorites were The Titanic, James Bond, and any movie with The Rock in it. She also enjoyed listening to music. Her favorites were Christian music, Christmas music, and The Carpenters.

Irene did not have much, but she was generous with her blessings. She subscribed to the Daily Bread and often provided extra copies to church members. She gave to organizations such as Tunnel 2 Towers, Saint Jude, San Bernardino Police Foundation, etc. Irene would give her time to anyone that needed someone to talk to and help others in need.

Irene Helena Poblete passed away on January 1st, 2023 at 3:21am at the Torrance Memorial Hospital. She was surrounded by her family and friends and will be missed, but never forgotten.

A visitation for Irene will be held Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 1160 N. Marine Ave, Wilmington, CA 90744. A funeral service will occur Friday, January 20, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Calvary Presbyterian Church.

Irene will be laid to rest in Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 S Western Ave, Rancho Palos Verdes, California 90275.
