

Katherine Lawrence (also known as Kathy, Ms. Kay), was born on November 24, 1924 in Covington, Louisiana to Clara Payne and Freddie Leon Rogers. Katherine was the third child of 12 siblings. She was united in marriage to Frank Lawrence on September 1945. He preceded her in death on February 3, 1999. They lived in New Orleans, Louisiana until 1961, when they became residents of Harbor City and Wilmington, California. Katherine went to sleep, at the age of 88, on Tuesday July 30, 2013 at 6:30p.m. at St. Mary's Hospital in Long Beach, California. She was surrounding by her loving family.
Katherine is survived by two brothers and one sister and their spouses: James and Bessie Rogers, Glen and Winifred Henry, Charlie Mae Thompson and Rev. Richard Thompson (deceased).
Her Children include: Ordean Collins, Brenda Yvonne Brown, Evelyn Proby, Frank (Vinnie) Lawrence, and Rosa Robinson.
Her grandchildren include: Eunice, Paula, Byron, Rosalind and Russell Hayden, Mural and Dionne Proby, Renesha, Roxanne (Lisa), Rachel (Myesha), Tiffany, and Tara. And, she had a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
Katherine was a member of Saint Vestal C.M.E. Church of Long Beach, California, where she sang in the choir and served on the stewardess board as a willing worker. She was also actively involved in serving at the Trinity C.M.E. Church in Los Angeles, California.
Katherine loved Christmas. Her gifts were always the same: socks, PJ's, and jackets. Also, she always bought the grandchildren and great-grandchildren their first tricycle. Don't worry Willie, you will still get your trike.
Katherine was famous for her ham sandwiches and water. The water was just plain water from the fridge, but everybody said she had the best water in town. Her famous sayings were, "I'll plant you now and dig you later" and, "if you see me in the fight with a bear, don't help me, help the bear".
Katherine's response to you saying "I love you," was always, "I love you more." Her love for those who she encountered was genuine and pure. Katherine's beautiful love will live on in her family and friends forever.
