Louis John Wooldridge, at the age of 86 passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2021. Louis was born January 16, 1935 in Garland, Louisiana to Gracie M. Nichols-Wooldridge and Oliver Wooldridge, Sr. He was the youngest of all the children, preceded in death: Oliver Jr., Torise Sr., Maxine, Anniewise, Verba Lee & Barbara. Louis is survived by his two sons, Louis Eric & Randy; thirteen grandchildren Brandon, Kierin, Matthew, Maia, Leonard, Kristopher, Jared, Jade, Jonathan, Joshua, Jeremy, Jasmine & Della; and seven great grandchildren Brian, Benjamin, Charlie, Archie, Mikey, Adrian & Brayden.
In October of 1974 at the age of 19, Louis joined the United States Navy and served as a chef/cook for almost 20 years until his retirement in April of 1974. While serving in the Navy, he was stationed in Tokyo, Japan where he met his wife Maeja “Joanne” Choi and they were married on May 20, 1966 at the American Embassy. After his retirement from the Navy, Louis purchased a house in Carson where he raised his family. He would earn his high school diploma from the Banning-Carson Community Adult School in June of 1976 and then later earned his AA degree from Compton Community College in June of 1979. In May of 1976, he started his second career as a Meat Cutter at the El Toro Marine Corp Air Station commissary where he worked for twenty years until his second retirement in May of 1996.
Louis was well known for his cooking skills and was always in high demand for his hot links and his smoked turkey during the holidays. He enjoyed barbequing at the park and we will truly miss the ribs and chicken that he would always serve up!
