Albert Darrell Cox, Jr.

ALBERT DARRELL COX, JR. Albert Darrell Cox, Jr., 86, of Wilmington, NC, died Monday, November 23, 2009 at Davis Health Care Center. He was born on June 5, 1923 in Wilmington, NC, the son of the late Albert Darrell Cox, Sr. and Christine Seitter Cox. A sister, Mary Cox Joyner, preceded him in death. Mr. Cox was a 1940 graduate of New Hanover High School and attended North Carolina State University majoring in Agriculture. He was inducted into the Army out of college and went on from there to a career in farming. He farmed for many years in New Hanover and Pender County as the owner of Cox Farms and Pender Glad Farms. Mr. Cox was a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Production Credit Association in Kenansville, the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Board, and was a former director of Bank of North Carolina, N.A., Wilmington board and First Union Bank. An avid golfer who played three times a week until he was 82, Mr. Cox was a lifetime member of Cape Fear Country Club and a founding member of Pine Valley Country Club. He was also a member of Little Chapel on the Boardwalk where he was and Elder. Surviving is his wife of sixty years, Christine Eubank Cox; two children, James Darrell Cox and wife Lesa, Susan Cox Rhodes and special friend John Miller; one sister, Betty Cox Burt; five grandchildren, Amy Cox Dexter and husband Jeff, Amanda Cox Leisher and husband Jon, Elizabeth Christine Rhodes and fiancé Ryan Stirnkorb, Sarah Scott Rhodes, and Albert Dustin Cox Rhodes; two step- grandchildren, Kevin D. Taft and Christi L. Palacios; and one step-great-granddaughter, Stella Grace Ferrill. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Little Chapel on the Boardwalk, Wrightsville Beach, NC with a reception to follow in the church fellowship hall. A private interment for the family will be held at Oakdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
