

Albert was born on May 15, 1938, in the Bronx, NY, to the late Albert and Lina Hinn. He attended Cardinal Hayes High School and the City College of New York where he received a BS Degree in Meteorology. He joined the Weather Bureau/National Weather Service in 1960 and served the nation for 34 years. Albert had assignments at JFK Airport; Burlington, Vermont; Portland, Maine; and Richmond, Virginia before being appointed Meteorologist in Charge of the Wilmington, North Carolina office for Southeastern North Carolina where he retired in 1995. For 40 years, he was a Eucharist Minister to the sick and shut in of Saint Mary’s Basilica and Saint Mark Catholic Church in Wilmington. He was a part of the team of volunteers at Good Shepherd Ministries cooking and serving food to the homeless. These services gave him much pleasure and happiness. He had a love of travel and traveled all over the world.
Albert is survived by his sons, Dr. Albert Hinn, Jr. of Chapel Hill and Dr. Greg Hinn (Dana) of Anacortes, WA; his sister Lucille Steiger (Nicholas) of NJ; grandson, Ryan Hinn of Charlotte, and granddaughter Keely Hinn, of Raleigh. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Marian O’Connor of Long Island, NY; nieces, Cindy, and Theresa of NJ; step-granddaughters Mattie and Annalise of Raleigh; his Life Companion and Caregiver, Rebecca De Silva, plus several grandnephews. He was predeceased by his son, Andrew Hinn and by his wife, Helen Kelly Hinn after 53 years of marriage.
A Catholic Mass in his memory will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
