Alfred Kenneth Burriss, Jr.

Ken was the son of Alfred Kenneth Burriss, Sr. and Blanche Elizabeth Benson Burriss. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Marion Elizabeth (Betty) Brown Burriss and his sister, Blanche Elizabeth Burriss Pearsall.

Ken and Betty are survived by two daughters, Ellen Burriss Zeman (Pat) and Janet Burriss Matthews (Tim). Eight grandchildren include Bryan Sisk (English), Laney Flora (Lee), Tierney Suggs (Eliot), Morgan Sisk (Mindy), Nathaniel Matthews (Julie), Tyler Matthews (Erin), Chelsey Parr (Alex), Spencer Matthews (engaged to Taylor Soignoli), and eleven great-grandchildren with another one on the way.

Ken proudly served in the US Navy, enlisting just before WWII ended. He was called back into service for a second tour and frequently mentioned spending his honeymoon on the Mediterranean Cruise aboard the USS Midway. 

He was a good and faithful servant to the church and to his family. During most of his career, Ken worked for Bell Telephone Laboratories in Burlington, NC and Naperville, IL. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and lapidary.

Visitation will be in the Mausoleum Chapel at Greenlawn Memorial Park at 10AM Saturday, March 4, 2023 followed by a graveside service at 11AM.
