

Alfred Joseph Peterson was born July 14, 1942 at James Walker Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, North Carolina. His parents were Jesse Julius Peterson and Lila Shepard Peterson. His son Alfred Joseph Peterson, Jr. (Joey) is deceased. He had three brothers- Jesse J. Peterson, Jr. (Jay), George William Peterson (Billy) and Dwight Douglas Peterson, who live in Wilmington, and a sister- Jeannie Peterson Montford who lives in Marion, North Carolina.He grew up at Middle Sound. a few miles from Wilmington. His father was transferred to Jacksonville, Florida by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in 1960, so Joe graduated from high school near Jacksonville, Florida. He volunteered in the United States Air Force and served in Viet Nam during the Tet offensive in 1965. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, from the Air Force, he move back to Middle Sound and was a member of the Wilmington, N.C. Fire Department where he served as an EMS and also raised honey bees. He became a licensed plumber and worked with firms in Wilmington and founded his own plumbing firm.He was named for Alfred Flanagan, his Maternal Great-Grandfather and Joe by his brothers, the namesake of their favorite Sunday Comic strip character Little Joe.Joe loved to fish and lived many decades in Florida where he told us “no matter where you drop a hook you could catch fish”. He lived for a while near Charlotte and Lake Norman and enjoyed fishing from his john boat in the lake as well as in the Wilmington area.His family and friends will always remember his smiles and good nature.Joe’s funeral service will be held at Andrews Mortuary in Wilmington August 10, 2023. Visitation will be at 10 AM. The service at 11 AM conducted by a cousin Rev. John Barnes, and his burial to follow at Prospect Cemetery.
