

Alton was born in Wilmington, North Carolina to Raymond and Roma Mae Jernigan who have preceded him in death, and he passed away on June 9, 2025. He is also preceded in death by the love of his life, Linda Kay Jernigan; 3 siblings: Ray (Sarah), Betty and Carolyn.
Alton Is survived by his 3 children: David (Jeannine), Bobby (Denise) and Billy (Angela); 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Alton was an amazing husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He proudly served in the Army and fought for his country in the Vietnam War. Following the war, Alton returned home where he became President of ILA 1766 until his retirement. Alton and Linda thoroughly enjoyed camping and visiting the NC mountains with friends and family. He was an active participant and coach of his son’s and grandson’s baseball games. One of Alton’s favorite pass-time activities was sitting in his rocking chair on his front porch and talking for hours.
He loved supporting Linda and her wood carving community by traveling to shows around the state.
Alton was truly loved by so many and his legacy will live on forever.
Visitation for Alton will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Coble Funeral and Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28412.
Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 13, 2025 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28412.
