She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfonso and Gaetana Sagona, her loving husband Pietro Vasile, and her sister Giuseppa Pensato.
Angela and her husband immigrated to the United States in 1955 from Sicily, Italy, settling in Newburgh, NY. She was a seamstress by trade and worked in the garment industry for forty years. She retired and moved to Wilmington, NC with her family in 1994.
During retirement, Angela (also known as Nonna), enjoyed spending her days outdoors, tending to her impressive vegetable garden. In addition to reading and doing word puzzles, she also loved cooking big Sunday meals for her family, making “Nonna’s” famous Italian cookies, and spending time with her best friends, Frank and Sally. But what she enjoyed most of all was being with her grandchildren.
She was a caring, loving, and strong person who was well loved by everyone she knew. A special thank you to the EMT’s, Mike, Sara, and Holland for the compassionate care they showed our beloved mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Felicia and Nick DeVenero. Her son and daughter in-law, Vincent and Martha Vasile. Her grandchildren Marco DeVenero, Gabriella and Gabe Moore, and Michael, Peter, Daniel, and Fabrizio Vasile.
A funeral service will be held on January 31st at 10:30am at St. Marks Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
