

Angus "Derrick" Hatsell, age 87 of Wilmington, NC passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center. He was born in Ayden, NC on July 6, 1926. He was a long time resident of Swansboro, NC and a member of First Baptist Church of Swansboro. He worked at Camp Lejeune as Base Maintenance Supervisor retiring after 37 years. He was a member of the Seaside Lodge and was a 32 KCCH Mason. He served in the Army at the end of WW II. After retirement he and his wife, Leslie enjoyed traveling in their RV. In 2002 they moved to Wilmington to be near their daughter. He was an active member of Pine Valley Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Leslie Earle Hatsell. In addition he is survived by his son Angus "Gus" Derrick Hatsell Jr. and wife Mary of Temple, Texas and his daughter Deborah Hood and husband Bob of Wilmington. He was blessed by four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Visitation will be Saturday, February 15th at 10:00 A.M. with the service at 11:00 A.M. at Pine Valley Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Melvin Hall. Burial will be at Oleander Memorial Gardens following the service. Honorary pall bearers will be members of the Omega Sunday School Class of Pine Valley Baptist Church.
