Ann Marie Clifton

She was born April 16, 1943, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Joseph Clemmons Cieless and Felicia Cieless.

Ann Marie married Roy Clifton in October 1963 and lived in Kew Gardens before moving to Levittown, NY. They moved to Port Jefferson where Ann Marie worked as a pre-school teacher. In 1978, Ann Marie and Roy relocated to Wilmington, NC where they found their forever home.

Ann Marie was active in Catholic Daughters, Tileston Outreach, Good Shepard House Soup Kitchen, knitting blankets for hospital patients, and her weekly Mahjong group. Wherever Ann Marie was, she was the life of the party. Always a gracious hostess and quick with a funny story to make you laugh. Her love of cooking meant sharing home cooked meals with neighbors and those in need. She was most proud of her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy.

Survivors include her children, Tom Clifton and wife Susan and Laura Allen and husband Greg; grandchildren, Michael Clifton and wife Jazmen, Zachary Allen, Natalie Smallwood and husband Conner, Hannah Allen, David Clifton and Anna Clifton; sister, Janet Greco and husband Nick; niece, Sara Goas and husband Ted and their children; nephew, Joe Greco and numerous cousins.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the Basilica Shrine of Saint Mary, 412 Ann St., Wilmington, NC. The family will receive visitors 30 minutes prior in the vestibule of the Basilica.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at New Hanover Regional Medical Center for their outstanding care of Ann Marie.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Basilica Shrine of Saint Mary or Catholic Daughters – Court 1036 Scholarship Fund.
