
ANTHONY JOHN DIBARTOLOMEO SR. Anthony was called home by the Lord on Sunday, June 21, 2015, "Father's Day." He will once again be reunited with his wife of 70 years, Angeline Teresa DiMura DiBartolomeo. Born in Middlesex, New Jersey on February 11, 1922 to Giovanni and Angela (Izzi) DiBartolomeo. Anthony grew up in Middlesex, moved to Raritan, New Jersey for three years where he attended school before moving back to Middlesex. Anthony was drafted into the military on December 2, 1942. He was sent to Camp Kilmer, South Plain Field, N.J. From there he went to Miami, Florida for basic training, then on to Savannah, Georgia and then to Columbia AFB, Columbia, SC. He returned to Camp Kilmer and from there was shipped out to England on the Queen Mary, which was converted to a troop ship carrying 16,000 men. They arrived in England in March 1944. On June 13, 1944 his squadron, the 83rd Airdrome, 9th Air Force landed on Omaha Beach, Normandy, France. There they were attached to Patton's 3rd Army and followed him to the end of the war. Anthony returned to the USA and was honorably discharged in November 1945. He returned to his job and worked there and other jobs till October 1951, when he was hired as Middlesex's 1st regular Italian Officer. During his twenty-six year career, Anthony was awarded as the "Police Officer of the Year" by the America Legion and the Middlesex Jaycee's. He was also a marksman shooter on the Middlesex Police department Pistol Team. In 1955 Allentown, PA. He came in second place in a National Shoot. He and another person both shot 299 out of 300. Anthony had eighteen times in the black and the person who came in first had twenty-two times. The Team also traveled to Washington, DC to shoot against the DC Metro Police, whom Middlesex defeated. Upon retiring from the Police Department, Anthony worked in the Shoprite Supermarket as a security checker for seven years. In 1984, Anthony and his wife moved to Hunterdon County with their son, Anthony DiBartolomeo Jr. and his wife Karen (Wells) DiBartolomeo and their children, Michelle and Anthony III. In 1988 he fulfilled his dream of owning a hot dog cart. He sold hot dogs, drinks and chips on Rt. 12 for seven years. He then went to work as a starter at Beaver Brook Country Club in Clinton, N.J. till 2002. In 2003 his son retired and they moved to Myrtle Beach, S.C. On December 26, 2012 Anthony lost the love of his life at age 92. In June of 2013 while at breakfast with Anthony Jr. at the Veteran's café in Myrtle Beach, S.C. he was approached by one of the workers and given an invitation for an all-expense paid trip to Normandy, France for the 70th Anniversary of D-Day. Anthony, Anthony Jr. and his wife, Karen went to Normandy, France with 21 other Veteran's from S.C. on June 1, 2014 for ten days. During the ceremony at the American Cemetery on June 6th, Anthony was on the podium right behind President Obama. When he was done speaking, he turned around and Anthony was the first Veteran he shook hands with. Anthony also shook hands with the French President twice, the former French President, and Chuck Hagel, the Secretary of Defense. The event was on national television. Anthony is survived by his only child, Anthony DiBartolomeo Jr, and his wife Karen, two grandchildren, Michelle Sabella (Jim) and son Dante and Anthony III (Melanie) and son's Justin, Jacob and Joshua. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway, N.J.
