
Benjamin Leonard “Ben” D’Lugin, Sr. of Wilmington died on October 24, 2012 in Wilmington. He was 91.
Mr. D’Lugin was born in Wilmington on November 28, 1920. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorayne D’Lugin, son, John D’Lugin and sister, Mildred D’Lugin Evans. He is survived by his sister, Doris D’Lugin Rulnick, daughter, Jeri D’Lugin, sons Jay and Lenny D’Lugin, granddaughters Alyssa and Abby D’Lugin and his companion, Anita Liebeskind.
Mr. D’Lugin served in the United States Army during World War II as a member of the Reconnaissance Company, 808th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He fought in battles throughout Europe, including Ardennes, The Rhineland and Central Europe, and the Battle of the Bulge. He received three bronze stars. After his discharge in 1945 he returned to Wilmington to join the business community as the owner of D’Lugin Brothers men’s clothing store until his retirement in 1984. He was a generous supporter of several charities throughout his life.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012 at B’Nai Israel Synagogue, 2601 Chestnut Street, Wilmington, NC 28405 with interment immediately following at B’Nai Israel Hebrew Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Mechum, Fred Neuwirth, Sander Retchin, Steve Stein, Barry Weiss and Herbert Zimmer. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Block, Daniel Retchin and Fred Retchin
In lieu of flowers memorial donations made be made to United Jewish Appeal, 25 Broadway Street, Suite 1700, New York, NY 10004.
