A celebration of her Christian life will be shared at Pine Valley Methodist Church beginning at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 9, 2026.
Betty was born in Richwood, West Virginia on January 31, 1949. She was the daughter of the late Mary Baker Burr Frazer and Harold Lee Burr. After attending West Virginia University, Betty married Jack, the love of her life, in 1970. She received a Bachelor’s degree from James Madison University, and a Master’s in Business Administration from Shenandoah University.
Betty enjoyed a profession of business administration and accounting. Some highlights include her business leadership roles: at Samuels Public Library in Front Royal, one of Virginia’s first subscription libraries; at Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, VA, where she helped navigate a major turn-around in finance and enrollment, and in the family consulting enterprise. As a partner with her husband in the military school arena, Betty’s authentic and gentle spirit was the bedrock of success as she skillfully and with grace entertained students, families, trustees and donors in her home, and traveled internationally to recruit and fundraise.
Betty loved music and dancing, and enjoyed many family singalongs and dancing with Jack or her sisters. She loved gardening and flowers, hiking with her family, and spending time near the ocean and on the beach, especially the beaches of North Carolina. She had a tender spot in her heart for animals, especially her golden retrievers, and she and Jack loved volunteering with Paws4People to help socialize puppies to become service animals.
Anyone who knew Betty knew three things for certain: she was a Christian with a firm, unrelenting faith in Jesus Christ, she never put herself before others, and she loved her family unconditionally. With Jack, she built a loving partnership and family: son, Matthew (Sarah) and daughter, Ashley (Chris) and her grandchildren, who she adored - Jack William Albert, James Addison Davis IV, Eliza Clare Albert, Andrew Albert, and Joshua Davis. She never missed a birthday or her nightly prayers for their safety and their souls. She was famous for baking and delivering hundreds of homemade Christmas cookies every year.
Betty is also survived by sisters, Beverly Hughes (ER), and Rebecca Perez (John); brother, Harold L. Burr, Jr. (Melinda); her stepfather, Lowell Frazer; aunt, Wanda Montgomery; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family suggests a way to honor Betty would be to offer a financial gift to the building program of Pine Valley Methodist Church (Make Room) – 3788 Shipyard Blvd. Wilmington, NC, or Paws4People Foundation – 1121C-324 Military Cutoff Rd. Wilmington, NC 28405.
