Betty Swain Benton, affectionately known to her family as “Meme”, died peacefully in her home September 4, 2024. Born September 30, 1931 to the late Olive and Layton Swain in Bolivia, NC, she would have been 93 later this month. Meme operated her hair salon for over 60 years where she developed many dear and lifelong friendships.
She was preceded in death by her husband David, and her brothers Roy and Dorman. Meme is survived by her daughter, Theresa (Ben) of Wilmington, her granddaughter, Anna Carr Bryan (Samuel) of Raleigh, her great-grandson Cameron, her sister, Jo Meacham (Dallas) of Greer, SC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm, September 18, 2024 at Greenlawn Cemetery conducted by Katie Harrington of Saint Andrews Covenant Presbyterian Church.
