Betty Bailey Jernigan On Monday, January 19, 2009, Jesus took the hand of Betty Bailey Jernigan and walked through heaven's gate where she was met by her father and brother. Betty was born August 25, 1934, in Florence, SC, daughter of Christine McLeod Bailey and the late Monroe D. Bailey. Her brother, Joel D. Bailey, Sr., preceded her in death. Mrs. Jernigan was actively involved in Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder and held many other offices within the church. She was an active volunteer in the Wilmington Interfaith Hospitality Network. On August 19, 1997, she was presented an Honorary Life Membership Award by Presbyterian Women. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 47 years, Cecil T. Jernigan; three daughters, Debbie Warwick and husband, Jim, Cathy McClanahan and husband, Brad, all of Wilmington, and Susan Krause and husband, Dennis, of Clayton, NC; six grandchildren, Melody Dickerson and husband, Kyle, April Barrow and husband, Trace, Heather Warwick, Brad McClanahan, Jr., Jason Krause, and Ashley Krause; two great-grandchildren, Austin Soles and William Barrow; brother, John H. Bailey and wife, Betsy; sister-in-law, Lynne Bailey; two nieces, Anita and Glenna and husband, Kevin; two nephews, David and wife, Julie, and Greg and wife, Kori; and four great-nephews and one great-niece. The funeral service will be 11:30am Thursday, January 22, 2009, at Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church with Dr. June Highfill officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Thursday, at the church, prior to the service, from 10am to 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church, 3902 Market Street, Wilmington, NC 28403.
