

Bonita "Bonnie" W. Wood, 95 of Wilmington, NC, passed away, 13 July 2020 after a full, fun and loving life.
She was a most loving and sacrificial wife, mother and grandmother which was demonstrated on a daily basis! Family and friends frequently comment “she was one of a kind.”
She was born to the late Emil Peter Hebert and Josephine Barry Hebert, October 2, 1924 in Butte, Montana. Her home town of Butte, Montana was deeply embedded in her heart and the family relished in her stories of World War II and kissing all the army men and the “Navy Men” too! Her sense of humor brought joy to all who knew her! Her love of cooking and feeding her family and friends brings so much joy and fond memories.
She was married to Tom Wood in 1944 after she spotted this soldier and telling a friend “that is the man I am going to marry”.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Jo Messer of Canton, NC, and sisters-in-law, Margaret (Dot) Watson of Tazewell, VA and Catherine Jackson of Richlands, VA who she loved deeply.
Children: Pamela and Roger Proffitt of Wilmington, NC, Tommy Wood of Newport News, VA, daughter-in-law Luzetta (Susie) Wood of Chesapeake, VA, Ken Wood and William Salgado of Wilmington, NC.
Grandchildren who were the light of her life: Darren and Amy Wood of Chesapeake, VA, Rhonda and Kris Rybolt of Chesapeake, VA, Robbie and Angie Wood of Saltville VA, and Angel and James Webster of Myrtle Beach, Joey Smeltzer of Tazewell, VA, Pat and Bryan Martin of Tazewell, Virginia, Mary Hooper of Piedmont, SC, Carl Bryan Martin of Greer, SC, and Logan and Roscoe Barrett of Saltville, Virginia.
Great-Grandchildren: Dawson Wood, Chris Molleen, Josh Wood, Rebecca Wood and Justin Lovell, Amiah Webster and James Webster III.
Great-Great-Grandchildren: Reagan Wood, Weston Lovell, Xandrea Griffith and Arrabella Wood.
She was also had an abundance of nieces and nephews
Preceded in death by husband, Tom Wood of Tazewell, VA, and a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Carol Wood of Tazewell, Virginia, sister, Antoinette Derrick, brother, Kenneth (Bud) Hebert, and sister-in-law, Mary Hebert.
She loved playing the piano, singing and teaching all her children and grandchildren how to play cards and board games. Those who played penny poker or scrabble with her knew “never ever to cross her” or there would be the devil to pay!
There are no funeral or memorial arrangements at this time due to the corona virus. There will be a family reunion in the future to celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that if you would like to remember her to please donate to the local chapter of your Alzheimer’s Association for much more needed research in this field. Secondly, we ask to please protect yourself, your families and friends and wear a mask during the tragic time.
