Byron was a dear friend, most likely my late husband's best friend. They shared many misadventures in years past. I find comfort knowing they are both in heaven sharing a laugh.

Cheers old friend, you will never be forgotten

Having wed Byron's daughter, Amanda, only two years ago, and with over a thousand miles between our homes, there are a million things I never had the opportunity to share with my father-in-law. Though the days we spent in the company of the other were far too short, what he shared with me every day were truly his greatest gifts; his trust and respect, his daughter, his grandchildren, and his family. Having been blessed with those things, I have only to look to them to remember the man he was and will continue to be, for they are his legacy and I am blessed to be part.

As a home health nurse, I interact with all kinds of people in any number of situations. That being said, I can honestly say I have never, ever encountered someone quite like Byron or had anyone tug at my heart strings as he did. He was the most determined, dedicated, strong, funny, sincere, courageous and sometimes stubborn :) patient I have ever had the pleasure of caring for. No matter what his challenge was or how poorly he might have felt, he always had a joke, a smile and a spark in those bright blue eyes. He was a wonderful man and I feel so lucky to have known him. My heart and my prayers go out to Linda and the rest of his family.

My Grandpa Byron was truly the best grandpa any kid could ask for, I think my brothers and cousins would all agree. He always had a plan or lesson in everything he told us. He honestly made all of us who we are today. Without him we wouldn't be nearly as tough, strong, intelligent, or even good looking. If I had to name the one man I admire most it would be him. He taught me so much and I can't express how truly thankful I am. I loved my grandpa and I'm going to miss him dearly.
