

Candace Jean Swart Houck, lovingly known as "Candy," of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on June 18, 2026, at the age of 68.
Born on June 15, 1958, in Wilmington, North Carolina, Candace was the daughter of Robert S. "Bobby" Swart and Bettye Jean Swart. As the eldest of four children, she embraced a lifetime of caring for those around her. She graduated from New Hanover High School in 1976 before becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant. For more than 25 years, she faithfully served others as a private-duty nurse, providing compassionate care and comfort to countless families.
Candace had a deep love for the Lord and expressed that faith through music as a longtime member of the Wilmington Celebration Choir. She traveled with the choir to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, touching the lives of many through her joyful spirit and love of worship.
Following the heartbreaking loss of her daughter in 2016, Candace devoted herself to raising and caring for her beloved grandson, Alex. He became the center of her world, and she poured her heart into giving him a life filled with love, stability, and unwavering support.
Known for her generous heart, Candace was always ready to prepare a meal, lend a helping hand, or simply spend time encouraging others. Her life reflected her steadfast faith, her love for family and friends, and her sincere desire to serve those around her with kindness and compassion. She will be remembered for her selfless spirit, her warm smile, and the lasting impact she made on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Candace is survived by her beloved grandson, Alexander Houck; her brother, Danny Swart; her sister, Melissa Harris; her sister-in-law, Christine Hansen; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, Brian Zachary Houck; her daughter, Meghan Houck; her former husband, Brian Houck; her parents, Robert and Bettye Jean Swart; and her brother, Robert "Robbie" Swart.
A memorial service celebrating Candace's life will be held on July 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Wrightsboro Baptist Church, 2736 Castle Hayne Road, Wilmington, North Carolina 28401.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that her faith sustained her throughout her life and that her legacy of love, compassion, and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
