Carol Price Ward was born on December 15, 1946, in Gastonia, North Carolina, and moved to Wilmington at the age of twelve—a place she would lovingly call home for the rest of her life. She was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church and an honorary member of Anchor Church of Wilmington. After many faithful years of service, she retired from the New Hanover County School System.
She was the daughter of the late Rev. CR and Mabel Price. She is survived by her daughters, Ginger Ward Roberts (Ricky) and Gela Ward Butner (Mickey); her grandchildren, Christian Roberts (Brandi), Geordi Roberts (Zainab), Jenna Wilcox (Alex), Austin Butner (Shelby), Amber Butner, and her great-grandchildren, Reese, Remington Roberts, and soon-to-be Zechariah along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by her four amazing sisters, Janice, Donna, Dottie, and Barbara, who have been instrumental in assisting Ginger & Gela to provide 24hr around the clock care for Carol over the last several years.
In 1970, she married her high school sweetheart, Frank Ward. Together they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family, sharing 49 beautiful years of marriage before Frank’s passing in 2019. Their marriage was a testament to commitment, laughter, and enduring devotion.
Carol’s greatest joy was her family. She loved deeply and cared for those around her with a selflessness that defined her life. No matter how full her days were, she always made time for others. Her smile was one that made others smile in return—warm, reassuring, and genuine. Even on days when she didn’t feel her best, her smile told the world she was steady and strong.
Her home was the gathering place…a place where holidays were celebrated, stories were shared, and memories were made. The door was always open, and no invitation was ever needed. Family and friends alike knew they were welcome, and many simply stopped by, knowing they would be received with love.
She found joy in the simple beauty of the outdoors—fishing, gardening, walking along the beach, and spending time on the farm. Nature refreshed her spirit and reflected the quiet strength she carried within.
Carol was known for her caring heart. She was always ready to help, always thinking of others before herself. Following the example of her beloved parents, Grandma and Papa Price, she and Frank perfected the art of building a family—one grounded in faith, unity, and unconditional love.
Above all, she was a light. She shared God’s love freely and faithfully, helping to lay a spiritual foundation that continues to bless her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her legacy of faith and love will continue to shine for generations to come.
Carol’s life was one of warmth, generosity, and steadfast devotion. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Anchor Baptist Church, 300 Futch Creek Rd in Wilmington, NC.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Friday, February 20, 2026, at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel. Burial will follow in Sea Lawn Memorial Park.
