In the short time he was with us, Carter always had a smile for everyone. His contagious laugh could be heard especially when he was watching his sister and brother play around him. Carter loved his collection of WubbaNubs, Bluey, his special nurse friends, and most of all his family. Although his time with us was short, he brought great joy to all who had the privilege to get to meet him.
Life did not provide Carter the best of health. He was a true fighter and always managed to keep that smile on his face even as he endured the many medical procedures.
Carter is survived by his parents, Dr. Eric McGraw, and Mrs. Anne McGraw of Wilmington, NC. His adoring sister, Amelia, and big brother, Campbell. Grandparents, Mrs. Kathleen Tate, and husband, James Tate of Roanoke, Virginia; William Hancock of Roanoke, Virginia; Dr. Robert McGraw and Mrs. Diane McGraw of New Bern, NC. And many aunts, uncles and cousins who will cherish Carter’s memory.
The McGraw Family want to thank all the medical staff at Duke University Hospital PICU for the care and treatment they provided Carter and his family. They also wish to thank St. James Episcopal Church for the love, support, meals, and kind gestures shown to them during this difficult time.
The funeral will be a private service with only close family members present.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Carter’s memory to the St. James Day School, 25 S. 3rd Street, Wilmington, NC 28401; or to the National MPS Society, c/0 Donations, PO Box 14686, Durham, NC 27709 (501(c)(3) 11-2734849).
