

Commander Stewart R. Gordon, USN-Ret.
Stewart Raoul Gordon, 86, of Wilmington, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter.
Stewart was born June 24, 1931 in Queens, NY, son of the late Max and Dorothy Gordon. He had a tremendous love for his country.
Stewart served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1977. Major duty stations included NSA at Fort Meade, MD; Naval Security Group Detachment, U.S. Naval Forces Europe; and U.S Fleet Yokosuka, Japan. Significant awards: Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter rifle, and Expert pistol. After retiring from the Navy, Stewart headed the NJROTC Department at Hoggard High School, in Wilmington. Stewart, who was a doctor of optometry, worked in the optometry offices of Dr. Daniel Mottola, in Wilmington.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Rosalind Ellen Gordon; daughter, June-Lani Gordon of La Jolla, CA; two sons, Seth Gordon of Abingdon, MD, and Reid Gordon of Frisco, TX; sister, Lois Patricia; 4 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. Interment will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
