Charles Nichols Garrett, Jr.

Charles Nichols Nick Garrett, Jr., 53, of Wilmington, NC suddenly left this earth to join the Lord Saturday, April 21, 2012. He was born November 7, 1958 in Pensacola, Florida, the son of Charles Nichols Garrett Sr. and Shirley Townsend Garrett of Wilmington, NC. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister Rhonda Garrett Thrasher of Birmingham, AL. four children, Elease Townsend Garrett, Charles Nichols Garrett III, Baron Brewer Garrett, Nathaniel Boddie Garrett, and Nick's faithful hunting dog ""Big"". Nick attended John T. Hoggard High School and graduated in 1976 he was a key varsity tennis team member. Nick demonstrated his early entrepreneurship initially selling clothing from the trunk of a car to developing multiple retail outlet stores, he also was an active member of Ogden Rescue Squad for 8 years, which eventually led to entering the construction business. Nick was President and CEO of Nick Garrett Development, Inc. founded in 1988, operated as a custom homebuilder and developer. Nick constructed and developed over 150 quality custom homes and commercial projects throughout southeastern North Carolina. Nick was well recognized as one of the premiere builders in North Carolina by virtue of attention to detail, his commitment to quality architecture and superior construction. Nick was an active member of the Home Builders Association and was recognized as Home Builder of the year. He was appointed by the governor to the NC State Clean Water Management Trust Fund and the Architectural Board. Nick also chaired the Lineberger Cancer Center Fundraiser. He and his son Nathan founded and operates Wild Fowler Lodge in Hyde County, NC. Nick was an avid supporter of Ducks Unlimited and donated many hunting trips to support other causes. Nick had a contagious smile and a passion and love for life. His positive outlook, generous spirit and loving touch made a lasting impression on all who knew him. We will celebrate his life and entry into heaven at St. Johns Episcopal Church, Wilmington NC on Wednesday, April 25, 2012. The family will receive friends at 10:00 am in the Fellowship Hall and the service will begin in the Sanctuary at 11:00 am. Interment will take place immediately following the service in the St. Johns Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to St. Johns Episcopal Church Memorial Gardens fund. The prayerful support of many friends and relatives has been greatly appreciated.
