Charles I. Duncan (Skippy) passed away Sat. evening at New Hanover Hospital after a devastating fall near home. He had survived a bout with lymphoma, a second go-round when it returned to his brain, many treatments at Chapel Hill, and 25 radiations.
Skippy was born in Maxton, NC, 76 years ago. He was a retired soldier who served in Vietnam, Europe, NATO, and in the U.S. He was also a retired campus policeman for UNCW. His passion was to play golf, and he had won the Army Masters tournament in Berlin in the 80’s. In later years he played golf with buddies at the Muni here.
The family thanks all the many well-wishers who helped keep him company during the past year or two, buddies from Chris’s Restaurant, Y, golf, and campus.
Skippy was preceded in death by his parents, Charles F. and Courtney Duncan, and his beloved son Timothy. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary.
Also surviving are his aunt Byron Dunn and her son Sammy Joe of PA, his cousins of the Edwards family (Little Joe, Nancy, Linda, and Sherry), “Candy” Myria Horton Bowers and other Hortons, from Wagram Cullen and Teresa Edwards, locally Billy Tyner (June), Little Bud George the shrimper, and many scattered in other areas.
