Christine Mercer Smith-Antwine, 82, surrounded by her family, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on Wednesday April 11, 2012 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center under the care of Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
She was born on June 1, 1929 in Brunswick Co., NC, daughter of the late Alvin and Olivia Mercer. She was a graduate of Bolivia High School.
She married Rev. Lawrence D. Smith in October 1954 who preceded her in death in 1989. Mrs. Christine retired from Kmart Corp and had also worked at Walmart in recent years. However, her most cherished accomplishment was her family who will miss her dearly….
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Woodus Mercer and Alvin B. Mercer, great- granddaughter, Kaleigh Ann Smith; half sisters, Nellie Berkmeirer, Bertha Watson and Annie Lucas.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel Antwine; children, David Smith(Elizabeth) of Carolina Beach, Kathy Smith(Michael) of Liberty, Mo, Kenny Smith (Leona) of Leland, NC, and Jimmy Smith(Deborah) of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, David Randall Smith (Kayla), Christina Smyers(Nick), Tiffany Smith, Mike Smith and Ryan Smith; step grandchildren, Christina Maultsby, Donnie, Stephen Bain and Colin Bain; great grandchildren, Kaden Smyers and Jessica Smith; 5 step great grandchildren and many other extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday April 13, 2012 at the Coble Ward- Smith Funeral Home, 3915 Oleander Drive Wilmington, NC 28403.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday April 14, 2012 At Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Margaret Hockett and Rev. Randy Wagner officiating.
She will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
