Clarence ("Roy") LeRoy Hill, Roy was a friend to everyone and he was always one to engage in lively conversation. He was known as quite a character, leaving a lasting impression on most everyone he met. He was born in Endicott, NY on February 11, 1936 to Clarence & Lavilla Hill and passed away on December 10, 2013. He is survived by a brother Gerald Hill (Mary) of Castleton, NY, a sister Joan Brown of Hudson, WI and many special nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his wife Katie of 53 years and his daughters Tracy Christian, Kelly Blanchard (Edwin) and Cherie DesChenes and son Christopher Hill (Heather). He is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Emerald Clark, Grace Christian, Madison and Spencer DesChenes, Jack Blanchard and Ethan Hill, a special adopted son, David Ginyard (Annie) and his faithful dog, Grady. Roy was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was very caring and vibrant, loved family gatherings and was always at the center of the activity. He played an important part in shaping his children and grandchildren into the people they are today. He served in the Army, working on the guided missile program and then had a successful management career with IBM. His work took him from Endicott, NY; to Pittsburgh, PA; to San Jose, CA and then to Raleigh, NC, where he took early retirement and relocated to Topsail Island where he ran a small beach motel business. He later retired again to settle with his family in Wilmington, devote his time to helping others and focus on serving the Lord. Roy lived out his faith through being an active member of the Pine Valley United Methodist Church. He was a proud Stephens Minister, a member of the Coastal Carolina Emmaus Community, participated in the prison ministry, Food Bank collections, Meals on Wheels deliveries and held Bible studies for members of the Spring Arbor Community, that always ended with a round of "If you're Happy and You Know it, Clap Your Hands"! He cherished his time working with others on numerous community projects and made many friends in the process. He will be notably missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am, Friday, December 13, 2013 at Pine Valley United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service 10:00-11:00 am at the church. A special thanks to Dr. Kenneth Kotz and his staff for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Roy Hill memorial at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Pine Valley United Methodist Church or the Coastal Carolina Emmaus Community.
