Col. John J. Hunt, Jr.

Col John J. Hunt Jr, 79, of Wilmington, NC went to be with the Lord on May 14th, 2026. He was born in New Bern, NC. on June 22nd, 1946. He was preceded in death by his mom Hazel Gaskins Hunt, father, John J. Hunt Sr. and his brother Danny Hunt.

John was a graduate of Wilmington College (now UNCW) with a BA in History and attended Wake Forest University for his Master’s degree. During and after college, he had a successful career in Banking with Wachovia Bank in Winston Salem, Raleigh and Wilmington NC, where he retired as Senior Vice President in Wealth Management as a Certified Financial Planner. After retirement there, he worked as a Certified Financial Advisor at Suntrust Bank in Wilmington.

In addition to his banking career, Col Hunt was a United States War College graduate with a storied career in the military, proudly serving in the Gulf War. He was the epitome of an officer and a gentleman who never asked anyone under his command to do anything he wouldn’t do himself. After retirement from the Army Reserves, he enjoyed doing government contract work serving as a Personal Financial Counselor for military personnel and their families both here and abroad.

He was active in the Rotary club of Wilmington, served on the board of the D.A.R.E foundation in Raleigh and was a past Chairman of the UNCW Foundation Board.

He loved his family with all of his heart and absolutely adored his four grandkids!!!!

He is survived by his loving wife Linda White Hunt, his daughters Jacqueline Hunt and husband Brian Hunt, Mollie Hunt Duggal and husband Michael Duggal. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Alan Brinson; Faith, Christian and John Duggal.

In honoring his wishes, a private graveside service will be held Friday, May 22nd at 11:00 am at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VFW or St. Jude’s.
